Meet Shannon

Hi, I’m Shannon and I’m a Melbourne portrait photographer who’s been in this game for 10+ years.

I get excited about beautiful light, big cities, the smell of the Australian bush, brewing storms, documentaries, well-designed houses, salt and vinegar chips and music that makes me frown/nod appreciatively.

My formative years were spent shaking saltwater out of my hair in Perth before heading for the cooler climes of London. But it was Melbourne that stole my heart and it is in her arms that I truly and finally felt at home.

I now live in Melbourne’s inner-west with my son and two constantly warring cats. When I’m not shooting you’ll find me collecting old records, doling out sass and killing house plants.

I’ve had work featured on Polka Dot Bride and Little Muse, have been interviewed on ABC RadioLollypop Beach and RAW and was a finalist in the Olive Cotton Awards and a semi-finalist in the Iris Awards.

In the past my primary focus has been wedding and family portraits but I’ve happily ‘retired’ from that and am now concentrating on personal projects. My current project – ‘Inside’ – explores the different ways in which we present ourselves inside and outside our homes. Outside, this ‘image’ is a mixture of reality, truth and lie and although different cultures have their own set of demands, the need for a public ‘face’ is a global expectation to some degree.

Behind closed doors this image slips away. There can be loneliness, family tensions, private habits and shame. This private self is the one I’ll be capturing in a series of portraits and interviews.

I’m presently seeking subjects so email if you’d like to take part.
